SPEEDAM 2006

·        More than 440 synopses have been submitted coming from more than 50 countries;

·        About 350 synopses selected for the inclusion in the programme;

·        270 papers included in the final programme and in the proceedings; about 200 papers scheduled in oral sessions, about 70 papers in poster sessions; (see the attached list of papers)

·        More than 720 authors coming from 42 countries;

·        More than 250 attendant to the conference (see the attached list of participants)

The International Symposium started on Wednesday May 24th with the “Formal Opening” where the Chairmen Prof. Enrico Pagano and Prof. Eiji Yamada introduced the sessions together with the greetings of the dean of the University of Catania and the dean of the University of Messina.

Three parallel scientific sessions have been scheduled for the oral presentation of the papers; poster sessions followed the oral ones in the first two days of the conference. A relevant number of attendants participated to both kinds of sessions, contributing to the success of the Symposium by means of a large number of questions/discussions during the scientific sessions.

As in the previous Speedam Conferences, a friendly atmosphere permeated all the Symposium and favoured profitable scientific exchanges among the participants.

During the meeting of the International Scientific Committee some remarkable aspects of the Symposium have been underlined and the guidelines for next Speedam have been traced.

In the same meeting the International Committee decided that the venue of Speedam 2008 will be in the Napoli area, as in the tradition of the Symposium. Sorrento or Ischia should be the preferred sites; the final selection will be carried out on the bases of logistic and economical considerations.

The Chairmen, the International and National Organizing Committees are grateful to all the authors and the participants in Speedam 2006 and hope to have opportunity to meet them in next Speedam 2008.
