Abstract :
After a review of the development of high-power components from the
appearances on the industrial market of first Japanese GTO
thyristors and then European ones, a succinct summary is given of
the technology and performance of present-day fast thyristors. The
characteristics of fast power diodes associated with the GTO
thyristor in traction convertors are presented. The latest trends in
high-power components are discussed, with the increases in voltage
and current of GTO thyristors, and combination of the GTO and diode
functions on the same Si chip.
