With the advent of personal computers, power electronics and power system simulation tools have blossomed and become a major tool in high-level training and computer-aided design. More specifically, numerical simulation constitutes a very rich investigation field in terms of technological and scientific developments. Interestingly enough, it is in Canada that were developed major power system simulation software packages such as EMTP, PSCAD-EMTDC and Power System Blockset to name but a few.

It is thus with great enthusiasm that I invite you to participate in the 7th International Conference on Modeling and Simulation of Electric Machines, Converters and Systems (ELECTRIMACS 2002) which will be held in Montreal (Quebec), Canada, from August 18th through 21st, 2002. ELECTRIMACS 2002 will be hosted by ÉTS: École de technologie Supérieure and supported by the École advanced multimedia facilities. ÉTS is located very close to downtown Montreal and within walking distance of the historical Old Montreal quarters and Montreal Harbor. Considering the success of previous ELECTRIMACS conferences, we are planning for three very stimulating days filled with technical sessions and activities. Rest assured that the ELECTRIMACS 2002 organizing committee is striving to offer you a most interesting and attractive stay in Montreal.

Finally, I reiterate my invitation to attend the ELECTRIMACS 2002 conference, partake in the discussions and thus share opinions and knowledge on the most recent developments and innovations relative to power systems modeling and simulation.
