IUMRS SOMIYA AWARD

All scientists are invited to submit nominations before March 15, 2000 for the

"SOMIYA AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION".

The following criteria will be applicable for the Selection Committee:

  1. The team to be honored must have collaborated accross at least two continents for some time during the last decade.
  2. The collaborative work must have been of the highest quality and well recognized by the community.
  3. Other things being equal, the impact on technology or society will be a major factor.

The award will be presented at the E-MRS - IUMRS - ICEM Conference, May 30 - June 2, 2000 in Strasbourg (France).

The awardee will be required to present a talk at the Strasbourg Conference.

*The award committee consists of Profs. R.P.H. Chang, Rustum Roy, Paul Siffert and Shigeyuki Somiya.

Professor Shigeyuki SOMIYA of the Tokyo University of Technology and later of the Teiko University, who is well recognized for his research on hydrothermal processing and on zirconia containing systems, has received many awards including very recently the Japan Academy's highest honor. He has been a champion of cooperation between Japan and USA and Europe.
