Abstract :
The paper describes the use by Hewlett-Packard Co. of a heat transfer
system in which electric energy is transferred to a circulating thermal
liquid, to heat and control the temperature of aluminum die casting dies.
The application is described from a historical, hands-on point of view
with emphasis on die preheating, extended tool life due to reduced thermal
shock, and control of die temperature during production.
