Power Electronics Seminar in Warsaw by Marian P. Kazmierkowski, IES/PELS Joint Chapter Chairman, IEEE Poland Section A very interesting Power Electronics seminar was presented by Professor Jacobus Daan van Wyk, Distinguished Lecturer of the Power Electronics Society, at the IES/PELS Joint Chapter Meeting in Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, on June 30, 1997. The seminar was attended by over twenty participants from Polish academe and industry. Professor van Wyk of the Rand Afrikaans University, Johannesburg, RSA, gave a lecture entitled "Present and Future Trends in Power Electronic Converter Development" in which he discussed in a systematic way the recent developments in power converter technologies. Discussion after Professor van Wyk's seminar in Warsaw, Poland. From left: A Dmowski, van Wyk, U. Przywara, J. Lastowiecki, G. Blajszczak, M. P. Kazmierkowski, and R. Bugy.
After a lively discussion from the audience, two PhD projects currently active at the Institute of Control and Industrial Electronics of the Warsaw University of Technology were presented, "Multiresonant DC/DC Converters for Power Supplies" by R. Bugy (supervisor Prof. A. Dmowski), and "Current Control of Four Legs PWM Inverters" by S.M. Ali (supervisor Prof. M.P. Kazrnierkowski). Professor van Wyk also visited a new Polish power electronics Company MEDCOM, Warsaw, which develops and manufactures dc power supplies for battery chargers and UPS. |
