COMPEL, 6th IEEE Power Electronics Society Workshop on Computers in Power Electronics July 19-22, 1998 COMPEL is planned for July 19-22, 1998 at Villa Olmo in Como, Italy. Although computer-related issues are discussed at conferences dedicated to power electronics, the details, problems and solutions that surround these issues are often omitted or mentioned only in passing. The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for the discussion of these issues. A list of relevant topics includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Workshop schedule: Sunday, July 19, half-day tutorial; Monday-Tuesday, July 20-21, workshop sessions; Wednesday, July 22, half-day demonstration session. A rap session will be organized for Monday night. Workshop attendees should be willing to participate actively. The workshop differs from a conference in that the specific focus allows more detailed presentations and discussions. Demonstrations of software are particularly encouraged. A period of time will be set for these demonstrations. Information for authors: Please submit four copies of an extended digest of no less than four pages, and no more than six, with a cover page containing the title of the paper, name and affiliation of the author(s), mailing address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address, if available. A list of keywords should also be included to help manage the review process. The schedule for authors is:
Computers for demos: Demos will be held in the computer center of the faculty of Como where a whole computer hall with PC Pentiums and workstations will be available. For additional information, please contact Prof. Castelli Dezza. About the venue: Villa Olmo is an imposing neoclassic building of the 18th century, now in trust to the Como Town Council. The renowned architect Simone Cantoni (1736-1818) designed the villa, which is the height of neoclassic architecture in Lombardia. The framework to the villa is a century old park where originally there was an elm tree after which the building was named; along the lakeshore, flower beds decorate the front garden in a pure Italian style. Social Events: Welcome Party on Sunday evening in the Park of Villa Olmo just in front of the lake; Social Dinner on Tuesday evening in the center of the lake after a beautiful trip on the lake with a private boat starting from the conference venue.
