INTELEC® '97 in Melbourne, Australia, October 19-23

by Steve Placko, General Chair, INTELEC '97

The 19th INTELEC meeting will be held in an exciting New World first location, Melbourne, Australia - from Sunday 19th to Thursday 23rd October 1997, at the Melbourne Convention Centre. This is the first time INTELEC will be held in the Southern Asia-Pacific region, one of the world's fastest growth areas for telecommunications.

The conference theme is "Power and Energy Systems in Converging Markets" - very topical with the global merging of telecommunications with computing and entertainment industries. Themes will be set by key speakers at the daily plenary sessions followed by technical sessions and planned open forums which will allow a liberal exchange of ideas.

Latest power technologies will be displayed at the INTELEC Exhibition being held at the Melbourne Convention Centre which offers the latest technology in conference and exhibition facilities.

A special spouse/guest program is being offered to highlight the diversity of Melbourne history, culture and entertainment. October is Springtime in Melbourne, and the avenues, parks and gardens of Melbourne are at their magnificent best.

A post-conference tour of a typical solar-powered telecommunications site in Central Australia ("The Big Red") is planned which will also give you the opportunity to see and climb the world's biggest single rock (Uluru or Ayers Rock).

The INTELEC '97 Australian Organising Committee extends to you a warm invitation to participate in what will undoubtedly be a high-quality, first-class, highly memorable INTELEC in a once-in-a-lifetime destination. Come and experience the wonderful city of Melbourne, and the unique continent of Australia!
