Power Electronics in Telecommunications

An example of a 5-kW power converter system for telecommunication system: front-end off-line power-factor-correction (PFC) boost converter to achieve 400-V for universal utility line; following two 2.5-kW forward converters are connected in series on the primary for high input voltage and in parallel on the secondary for high output current to obtain a 48-V distributed DC-bus.

Alternatives: 3-level boost PFC converter to utilize smaller rating semiconductors and to reduce input inductor size + full-bridge zero-voltage zero-current switching (ZVZCS) converter for higher efficiency and better utilization of magnetic materials
