The new TMS320C5402 DSK is in volume production and available today. At a special introductory price of US $195, the TMS320C5402 DSK is a low-cost, comprehensive development tool that allows new DSP designers to explore the TMS320C5000(tm) DSP architecture and begin developing C5000-based applications today. The C5402 DSK is designed specially for digital communications applications and comes complete with a TMS320C5402-based target board, DSK-specific Code Composer Studio Debug Tools, 32K application size limited C compiler/assembler/linker, parallel port interface, power supply and cables.

Hardware Included

The new C5402 DSK gives students and new DSP designers access to the industry's most powerful DSP specifically optimized for applications that need the best combination of power/performance/area. The 100 MIPS processing power of C5402 enables it to be used in a variety of signal processing development areas including speech compression/decompression speech recognition, text-to-speech, fax/data conversion, modem, protocol conversion, tone generation/detection and echo cancellation. The C5402 device features:
  • 100 Mhz
  • 40-bit ALU
  • 16K x 16 Bit dual access on chip RAM
  • 4K x 16 Bit on chip ROM
  • Advanced multibus architecture with 3 separate 16-bit Data memory busses and 1 Program Memory Bus
  • 2 McBSP, 6 DMA controllers, 8 bit host port interface, 2 16 bit timers
DSK on board features:
  • Embedded JTAG Emulation via the TBC and IEEE-1284 Parallel Port
  • An on-board parallel port controller allows the host PC to use the parallel port for emulation or to directly access the host port interface of the 'C5402
  • Two 3.5mm Audio Jacks for handset microphone and speaker
  • RJ-11 Modular Interface Connector for DAA access

Software Included

C5000 C compiler/Assembler/Linker:
The DSK is bundled with a special 32K (object size - initialized data & program) code generation toolset. This capacity limited version of our code genation tools allow new users to experiment with sample code, test algorithms and write their own application.  Now user's will have the flexibility of writing their application in C making getting started in DSP programming easier than ever before.

The TI optimizing C compilers translate ANSI-standard, C language files into highly efficient TMS320 assembly language source files, which are then input to the TMS320 assembler/linker. The TMS320C54x Optimizing C Compiler/Assembler/Linker, was designed with three major efficiency goals in mind:

  • Produce compiled general-purpose C code that approaches the performance of hand-coded assembly language.
  • Provide a simple and accessible programming interface to the C run-time environment so that critical DSP algorithms, demanding extreme performance, can be implemented in assembly language.
  • Establish a comprehensive, easy-to-use tool set for the development of high-performance DSP applications in C.
DSK-specific Code Composer Studio IDE
The DSK comes complete with DSK-specific Code Composer Studio Debugger. Code Composer Studio's integrated development environment is similar to MS Visual C++. Thus helping new users who are familiar with Visual C++ get started with Code Composer Studio.

Code Composer Studio includes:

  • Integrated Development Environment (IDE): debugger, editor, visualization, profiler and project manager
  • The editor is specifically tuned for writing C and DSP assembly, this allows developers to work more efficiently since they don’t have to switch applications to edit their code.
  • Multilevel debugging allows you debug both C and Assembly language code.

Note: All Software tools bundled with the DSK are legally restricted to use only with the C5402 DSK hardware.
