Abstract :
This paper describes a new single-phase to three-phase converter used to interface a three-phase induction motor from a
single-phase AC supply. This converter employs only two IGBTs as a chopper circuit. The IGBTs are used as a phase control for
obtaining one phase of the three-output voltage of this converter circuit. The other two phases are directly connected from the
single-phase AC supply. A mathematical model of this converter is presented. Also, a study of performance of the motor fed from
this converter is described analytically and experimentally. The complete performance is verified experimentally where close
agreement between the computed and test results is achieved. Also, a good performance of three-phase motor has been achieved
with low cost.
