More About APEC

APEC has continued to grow and be more successful year after year. This is not by chance - there is a lot of planning and work that goes on behind the scenes that make APEC the successful conference that it is. This page and its links give you a look at what it takes to put on APEC year after year.

THE APEC ORGANIZATIONS

There are several organizations that contribute to the operation of APEC. The Sponsors provide financial backing for each year's conferences. The APEC Steering Committee is responsible for strategy and policies, including picking the sites of future conferences. Each year there is a Conference Committee that is responsible for organizing and running that year's conference. The Conference Committee is responsible for directing the professional Conference Management and Exhibition Management companies that support the conference. Learn more about how each of these organizations contributes to the ongoing success of APEC by clicking here.

THE SPONSOR'S AGREEMENT

The operation of the conference is governed by the Sponsor's Agreement on the Continuing Operation of the Applied Power Electronics Conference.

THE PAPER REVIEW PROCESS

Papers, in the form of abstracts and digests, submitted to APEC are examined through a peer review process. The reviewers are looking for papers that will be of interest to practicing power electronics professionals. Learn more about the APEC paper review process by clicking here.

CHOOSING APEC LOCATIONS

Ever year the Steering Committee gets requests to hold APEC in various locations. There have even been suggestions that APEC be held on a cruise ship with helicopters to ferry participants from shore to ship and back! As much as the Steering Committee would like to have an APEC in Chicago or the Bahamas, there are some limitations on where APEC can be held. Learn more about how the Steering Committee chooses the APEC conference locations by clicking here.

APEC MICROMOUSE CONTEST RULES

Each year APEC hosts North America's premier MicroMouse contest. This contest started out as an exercise in artificial intelligence. However, when the first mice were built, the real problems were in controlling the speed and direction of the mice. What was to be a contest in computing science turned out to be a contest in power electronics and motion control.

APEC is proud to host teams from all over the United States and the world. In most years there are more than one team from Japan, Hong Kong or Singapore competing at APEC. Most teams competing in MicroMouse contests are students. The development of MicroMouse technology over the years has been fascinating.
