Titre : History of the Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC) Vers : What's New Vers : APEC '98 Vers : APEC '99 Vers : History Vers : Site Map The Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC) was first held in 1986 in New Orleans and was sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Power Electronics Council, the precursor to the IEEE Power Electronics Society. APEC has been held annually since. The demise of the Power Concepts, Inc. International Power Electronics Conference (1975-1984), better known by its registered service mark POWERCON, presented an opportunity for the IEEE to sponsor a power electronics conference better serving the needs of the working power electronics engineer than the more specialized IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference. Sponsored by the Power Electronics Society (PELS), the Industry Applications Society (IAS) joined in sponsorship in 1990 and the Power Sources Manufacturer's Association (PSMA) in 1991. Courtesy Associates has provided management support to the conference since its beginnings in 1986. The operation of the conference is delineated in the Sponsor's Agreement on the Continuing Operation of the Applied Power Electronics Conference.
